Henri Mège (French, 1904-1984)

Born on November 29, 1904 in Drôme, Mège trained in painting thanks to his mother Isabelle Mège. He followed a military career which took him to Indochina in 1931. There, he met the emperor Bao Dai and befriended the painter Mai Thu. During his military career in Indochina, he pursued his passion for painting with and incorporated a touch of oriental influence. His favorite subject matter were landscapes and night scenes, views of rivers and valleys, boats on rivers and known views of the landscapes of Vietnam. He was also a teacher in Saigon between 1950 and 1956.

 

During his retirement in France, he became a member of the Savoy Fine Arts society.
