Lee Man Fong (Chinese, 1913-1988)

Born in Guangzhou to a family of 10 children, Fong was taken to Singapore by his father at an early age. There, he earned his living thanks to his art then decided to leave for Jakarta in Indonesia in 1932. In 1946, he exhibited regularly in Europe, in Paris in particular. Sukarno, the then president of Indonesia, particularly appreciated the work of Man Fong. He made him the official presidential painter.
