Le Van De (Vietnamese, 1906-1966)

Born in Mo Cay in the province of Ben Tre, Van De was from a wealthy family.  In 1925, he was admitted to the first class of the Higher School of Fine Arts in Indochina where he graduated in 1930. His specialties were silk painting, oil painting and fresco painting.  In 193, he received a scholarship to study in France where he would follow the courses of the National School of Fine Arts in Paris.  He would then receive a scholarship to continue his studies in Italy and Greece.  When the National School of Fine Arts of Saigon was created in 1954, he was appointed the director by the Vietnamese government, and he remained so until he left in 1966. This school trained great artists such as Le Thanh Nhon and Do Quang Em.
