Nguyen Sang (Vietnamese, 1923-1988)

Born in 1923 in the village of Air, My Tho province, Sang passed the entrance exam to the School of Fine Arts in Indochina in 1938. Together with other artists such as Nguyen Gia Tri and Nguyen Tu Nghiem, Sang made lacquer one of the most famous forms of expression in Vietnam. His favorite themes are life in general, war, revolution and the conflicts of his generation. He was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature in 1996.
